The Construction Industry accounts for over half of the development budget of the country each year. Accordingly it has the potential to create thousands of jobs and spearhead the development of a country. Critical as it is, in Botswana, it is the sector of choice for anyone who has failed in his first chosen career. The consequences are incomplete projects, poor workmanship and corruption just to identify a few.

At TKM Engineering, we believe that construction is a very complex field which needs proper academic training and sound practical training which is continuous and evolving. The academic training gives one the basic theory on construction concepts while the practical training will develop one’s understanding of the theoretical concepts. Once you possess both training regimes, you begin to understand the complexities of the industry and the daunting task of undertaking a multimillion pula project. There is a general misconception that any contractor awarded a multimillion pula project, will eventually make multimillion pula profits. The misconception has attracted all kind of people into the industry and some spend the anticipated multimillion pula profits before they can even start the project. Unfortunately this state of affairs has damaged the industry to a point where the general public believes it is in the wild-west where the fittest can make a quick buck.

At TKM Engineering, we seek to be different and recognise the importance of the industry to the country, the potential it holds and the complexity of delivering a construction project. To participate in TKM Engineering, it is a pre-requisite to have relevant academic training and/or practical training in the sector. Continuous training and improvement will remain at the core of the business. We admire our successfully completed projects rather than the profit we made and cherish our longevity on the industry more than what we accumulated over a short period of time.

As the Founder and Managing Director of TKM Engineering, I have big dreams which will not be realised during my tenure but I can only hope that they are realised during my lifetime. It is also my wish that my dreams are not the end for the company but rather the start of other people’s dreams which I cannot even contemplate.
